Moment Norrsken

2016-12-20 by Thomas Øhrbom (Whisky Saga)

Mackmyra Moment Norrsken (6), NAS, 53,2 %

Here is the next installment in the Moment series from Mackmyra. The Mackmyra Moment Norrsken was the sixth release in the series. It was released on December 1, 2011, in a limited run of around 1500 bottles. The Mackmyra Moment Norrsken was matured in a mix of 100 litre bourbon and sherry casks, and 30 litre bourbon, sherry and fresh Swedish oak casks. The name ‘Norrsken’ means northern lights (aurora borealis).

Nose: Vanilla, barley juice, cereal, toast, and banana. A bit earthy, I think. Soft notes of dried fruits, but the sherry influence is rather mild. Not much peatiness on the nose.

Taste: Rich and full bodied mouthfeel. Sweet and with medium spiciness. Banana, honey, ginger and cinnamon. Hints of ashes and wood smoke.

Finish: Medium long finish. Remains rather sweet throughout. Honey with a touch of ginger and slightly burnt toast. Turns a bit watery and thin right at the end – leaving me with simple syrup and not much more

Comments: A fine, young dram from Mackmyra.

Score: (83/100)
