Today I present an independent bottling of Mackmyra, exclusive for the German market.
The Mackmyra 2008 Alambic Classique Bordeaux Finish was distilled in 2008 and initially matured in a bourbon barrel. It then received a 4 month finish in a Bordeaux Wine Barrel (Cask #17306). It was bottled in 2017 with a total outturn of 130 bottles. In was released for sale in April 2017.
You can buy a bottle of the Mackmyra 2008 Alambic Classique Bordeaux Finish online at around € 99.
Nose: Vanilla and dusty oak. Hints of strawberries with icing sugar. Caramel and dirt floor. Surprisingly rich and full on the nose.
Taste: Medium body. Caramel and sawdust. Earthy notes as well – wet leaves and the moist dirt floor of a deep dungeon. Bitter-ish notes in the back.
Finish: Medium long finish. Peppery caramel sauce. Dark red berries. Wet leaves and chocolate. This really does grow on me, sip by sip. There is a depth and balance here that I like.
Comments: A bit darker and richer than normal from Mackmyra. The Bordeaux finish has had a positive effect, as far as I can tell. One of the best Mackmyra whiskies I have tried so far.
Score: (87/100)
