I continue working my way through old Mackmyra releases. Today I am looking at the third whisky in the Special series. The Mackmyra Special 03 Små fat, stor smak (small casks, big flavor) was released on November 2, 2009.
This whisky is made up from unpeated whisky matured in 1st fill bourbon barrels, mixed with peated and unpeated whisky matured in 30 litre casks (ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and new Swedish oak).
The Mackmyra Special 03 Små fat, stor smak is no longer available to buy, but was sold at SEK 592 when it was released.
Nose: Soft and a bit oaky. Mild spices, ripe banana, apples, biscuits and caramel. Cinnamon, nutmeg and coconut. Chocolate covered hazelnuts.
Taste: Soft and quite oily mouthfeel. Banana flavoured butter, honey and caramel.
Finish: Medium long finish. The sweetness is a bit darker now, with more caramel and added dark chocolate. Still plenty of cream and butter notes. Licorice, nuts and mild oakiness.
Balance: A very nice dram. I especially liked the creaminess.
Score: (83/100)
