Paul M. Hahlbohm runs http://www.whisky-nach-wunsch.de, arranges tastings and bottles some whisky under his own label "Paul's Prime." This Mackmyra Reserve is from prestored elegant whisky distilled in March 2010. In April 2014 the whisky was moved to Gravity casks in Gut Basthorst and bottled in May 2016. Notes according to Paul's Prime: Nose: First intense vanilla, honey and caramel with light fruits (apple, pear, gooseberry) and some citrus fruits in the background. With each subsequent breath comes more intense scents reminiscent of a forest walk: pine, wood, moss, resin and wild berries smell attractive. Taste: In the beginning only powerful, then also delicate, light, sensitive and complicated. You need to let it rest on your tongue for a while as it needs time to tell your story. First comes flavors of wild honey and vanilla, which are followed by berries and slightly overripe bright fruits. Well balanced by oak influences. With a little water the taste of forest and berries becomes even more intense. Finish: Varm and surprisingly long. With an aftertaste of wild honey, berries and ectones. Comments from Paul's Prime: Due to the favorable surface in relation to the volume of a 30 liter small Gravity Cask, this Mackmyra matured faster and more intensely during its second storage than would have been the case in normal sized barrels. This effect is reinforced by the fact that the ends of the barrel consist of new Swedish oak, which gives off particularly intense flavors and thus creates a balance that is more typical of much older whiskey. In its taste profile it is reminiscent of a good Littlemill.
