A single cask Reserve released by La Maison du Whisky in their LMDW Cellar Book series. Prestored elegant recipe that spent 4 years on ex-bourbon cask before being moved to a 30 litre Oloroso cask. Numbered bottles. Tasting notes: Appearance : deep yellow with glints of gold. Nose : full-bodied, rich. The very exotic (passion fruit, guava) initial nose is particularly elegant. Allowed to breathe, wonderfully rich vanilla pods take the relay. Increasingly fruity (quince, orange), it lingers with wonderfully distinguished notes of forest floor (mushroom, chestnut, moss). Palate : clear, lively. Wavering between very creamy notes of vanilla and incredibly pure floral notes, the attack is very velvety. Slender, it develops into notes of malted barley, rose petal and salted butter caramel. With time, a fine note of earth and ginseng root gradually appear. Overall : long, silky. White peach, cocoa bean and grated ginger initially spread across the palate. The finish then lingers with notes of roasting coffee, green liquorice and Corinthian raisins. The retro- nasal olfaction highlights the quality of the wood and its milky character (coconut, rice pudding). The empty glass is liquorice, fruity (lemon) and spicy (cumin). |
