This is the thirteenth release in Mackmyra’s Moment Series.It was released back in 2013, in a limited edition of 1600 bottles.
The Mackmyra Moment Mareld has, according to the official product sheet, had a finish described as “smoke and sherry casks”. I am not exactly sure what a smoke finish means.
Nose: Warm, delicate and approachable. This is a dram that invites you to come closer. It is sweet, lightly fruity, with a solid base of wood smoke with a green-ish edge (grass and juniper). There are sherry notes – dried fruits etc – but they are rather toned down.
Taste: Medium body, with oily and soft mouthfeel. Light spices, juniper, dry ashes and dark chocolate (not the really dark stuff, mind you).
Finish: Medium long finish. Milk chocolate now, with coffee on the side. Hot chocolate topped with fresh, whipped cream. Add some licorice and you’re good to go.
Comments: This is one for the long winter evenings. Best enjoyed in your mountain cabin, while the winter storms rage on relentlessly. I really enjoyed this.

Moment Mareld is a smoky whisky where elegant, smoky and extra smoky whisky has been used, with a finish on former sherry casks. Notes according to Mackmyras webpage: Nose: Fruity, smoky and spicy with hints of juniper, peat, butterscotch, toast, almonds, raisins, pear, citrus and oak as well as light herbal notes of anise and grass. The smokiness is well integrated with the sweetness of the casks. Taste: Fruity, smoky and spicy with butterscotch, citrus, dried fruits and vanilla. The aftertaste is softly oaky and slightly peaty with a light fruitiness. | |
