Moment Bärnsten

Mackmyra Moment Bärnsten (15), 7 YO, 49,8 %

I am getting close to catching up on all the releases in the Mackmyra Moment Series. The Mackmyra Moment Bärnsten (“amber”) was released in early 2015, in a limited run of 1550 bottles. As usual, I present the official description of the whisky, as given on the Mackmyra website: “Our fifteenth release in the Moment series is a Swedish malt whisky in very limited edition. The character comes from our elegant recipe when produced directly after a batch of our smoky recipe, resulting in a careful smokiness. The whisky has then been matured on French Bordeaux wine casks, cloudberry wine casks and casks of Swedish oak.” The Mackmyra Moment Bärnsten appears to be sold out everywhere.

Nose: Very nice notes of dark chocolate mixed with a deep sweetness of red berries. Earthy with heavy spices and notes of leather. Soft notes of smoke.

Taste: Dry-ish mouthfeel. Spices, oak, citrus and cool vanilla.Pepper and hints of ashes.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Mainly chocolate and caramel now. A whisper of wood smoke. The spices have mellowed out and the citrus is gone.

Comments: A little above average, in all aspects. That’s all I had today…

Score: (84/100)
