Sweden Rock 2015

Mackmyra Sweden Rock 2015, NAS, 40 %

The Mackmyra Sweden Rock 2015 is a limited edition release, made in conjunction with the annual Sweden Rock Festival. It is made with whisky drawn from bourbon barrels, and whisky that has spent time in casks which previously held raspberry wine. It is mainly made up from Mackmyra’s elegant (unpeated) recipe, but there is a small amount of peated whisky in the mix as well. This release was limited to 6 666 bottles. I wonder how they came up with that number…hmm… There is a 2016 edition of this whisky as well, and I shall of course review that in due time. The Mackmyra Sweden Rock 2015 was launched on April 2, 2015. It sold at SEK 699, but the price should have been SEK 666, right? This whisky is now sold out.

Nose: Vanilla, sweet biscuits, strawberry jam, sawdust and a light hint of smokiness. The nose improves quite a lot with time in the glass. Let it breathe, people! Give it room! I mean it, it is a good thing.

Taste: Very thin mouthfeel. Milk chocolate and strawberries, with a generous helping of freshly ground black pepper. Light caramel and vanilla.

Finish: Relatively short finish. Thin, and a bit watery. Now with more caramel and oakiness (sawdust and wet planks). Has a slight bitter touch right at the end.

Comments: A bit too mild and timid for me. This is not a dram that says rock’n’roll to me. Maybe I’m too old? Or too young? Who knows…

Score: (74/100)
