This is the eleventh release in the Moment Series from Swedish distillery Mackmyra. The Mackmyra Moment Glöd (“glöd” means “glow”) was released in 2013, in a limited run of 1088 bottles.
This whisky has an unusual finish in glühwein casks. Not sure I have ever seen that before.
Here is how Mackmyra describes this whisky:
“Our eleventh release in the Moment series is a spicy and smoky whisky characterized by Mackmyra’s whisky from the elegant and the extra smoky recipe and finished on casks which previously stored glühwein.”
The Mackmyra Moment Glöd is sold out.
Nose: Soft peat, toasted oak and toasted .. well, toast. Vanilla, and sweet berries. Almonds and nutmeg. Pear juice.
Taste: Medium body, somewhat oily mouthfeel. Apples, pears, white pepper and ashes. A bit fizzy. Ginger and nutmeg.
Finish: Medium long finish. The glühwein is more noticeable now, and it is a bit odd to find this in a whisky, I must say. Dark chocolate with bitter orange liqueur filling.
Comments: It is good, but I still struggle with it a bit – it is just too different. But kudos to the team at Mackmyra for walking these strange paths.
